BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Vice Governor Cris Garcia representing Gov. Abet Garcia welcomed on Sunday the 5,654 new college scholars of the provincial government’s Iskolar ng Bataan program.
“Study hard, the scholarship program is a big help to your parents”, the vice governor advised new scholars during the Iskolar ng Bataan General Assembly and Orientation School Year 2018-2019 held at People’s Center capitol compound.
The scholars came from 1st district and 2nd district of the province.
Before becoming vice governor, Garcia was the original coordinator of the Iskolar ng Bataan and Gurong Iskolar ng Bataan. She now serves as adviser of the scholarship program.
Iskolar ng Bataan coordinator Ramon Canas said scholars from Balanga City receive P14,000 annually (P7,000 per semester), from Morong receive P12,000 (P6,000 per semester), and from other towns P10,000 (P5,000 per semester).
Aside from the new ones, the province has 2,741 old college scholars.
Canas explained since tuition fee is already free in state colleges, the scholarship money can be used by scholars as cash allowance.
He said the provincial government has also scholarship program for teachers, PUP Mariveles students, and Aetas.
The late Governor Tet Garcia and then 2nd district congressman currently Gov. Abet Garcia hatched in 2005 the Iskolar ng Bataan program benefitting ever since thousands of college students from the province.
