CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – “This signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will start the establishment of a 600 megawatt thermal power plant in the province”, this was said by Governor Abet Garcia during the ceremonial signing of MOU for the proposed 600 megawatt thermal power plant with the Hanjo Group Manufacturing Corporation – a Japanese- Korean-based company on March 7, at the Provincial Governor’s Office Conference Room.
Present in the signing are the top executives of Hanjo Group, namely Mr. Hak Joo Choi – Chief Operating Officer and Mr. Chris Takayama – Chief Finance Officer, and officials of the Provincial Government of Bataan led by Gov. Abet Garcia.
The proposed power plant, according to Mr. Choi, will cost around 1 billion US dollars and that they will start the study as to what kind of thermal power plant they will build (stream-driven, energy from the earth’s soil, biomass, or other renewable energy) and the location where the power plant will be built.
Governor Abet also clarified that this undertaking is under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and hopes that the power plant will be built swiftly.
The governor also said that he is very happy that the Hanjo Group chose Bataan to be the venue of what he calls “The Clean Project”. ‘”The Clean Project” will create 10,000 to 20,000 jobs and once fully operational, it will benefit not only Bataan but also its nearby provinces.
