CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – “Ang bilangguan ay daan tungo sa pagbabagong buhay”, Dr. Gregorio J. Rodis, President of the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) stressed this point in his message during the commencement exercises of the 78 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) who finished the skills development training conducted by the BPSU and TESDA-Bataan. The simple ceremony was held last March 12 at the Bataan District Jail covered court, Capitol Compound, this City.
Project “HOPE (Helping Out People thru Education) behind bars” according to Dr. Rodis, is a joint initiative of the Bataan District Jail (BDJ), BPSU, and TESDA – Bataan. Started nine years ago, a total of 1421 PDLs have benefited from the said project. This year, the courses that the PDLs took are: National Certificate (NC) 2 in Housekeeping, Bread and Pastry production, Food and Beverages services; and NC 1 in Shielded Metal Arc welding, Automotive, and Agriculture.
Dr. Rodis also said that PDLs deserve to gain more knowledge even if they are inside the jail which they can use once they are released. One former PDL thanked organizations like the BPSU, TESDA-Bataan and the BDJ who helped her and other PDLs because now that she is back to her loved ones, she is now already looking for a decent job.
Dr. Rodis further inspired the completers in saying, “All of these will lead us to a better future, and together we can make a difference.”
