ABUCAY, Bataan - About 800 residents of this town, one of the prospects for housing and property leasing development in this province, have undertaken extensive technical skills, food technology and entrepreneurial services seminars last year.
Engineer Ernesto S. Vergara, municipal administrator and municipal planning and development officer of this town said that said residents attended shielded metal arc welding, pipefitting, dressmaking short courses, food processing technology and perfume and candle making, all sponsored by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the municipal government.
He revealed that the those undertakings are in conformity with the main objectives of Mayor Liberato Santiago, Jr. of providing residents the appropriate technical expertise to compete with other applicants for local and overseas employment opportunities.
Housekeepers were likewise trained on food preparation and technology preferably on local delicacies and other dishes in preparation for the putting up small and medium eateries in the town’s commercial district near the Mega Market, Engineer Vergara said.
He added that Mayor Santiago sees the importance of creating an investment led growth that will produce employment opportunities for the residents.
TESDA had allocated P 1.2 million for the trainors and materials used in the training programs while the local government shouldered the expenses incurred in the provision of the training site and other incidental cost of the projects.
