CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The fire that hit a fishing village in Brgy. Capunitan in Orion last January left hundreds of families displaced. Help from numerous individuals and organizations, both public and private, local and foreign immediately poured in, yet the affected families still feel the adverse effects of said calamity.
In its genuine desire to help facilitate the recovery/rehabilitation process of the affected families, the Provincial Government of Bataan, thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) immediately conducted a series of case studies and interviews among said families as early as February.
Initially, 88 families were given financial assistance amounting to Php 10,000 (each) in cash yesterday, March 13 at the Bataan School of Fisheries in Orion where they are temporarily housed.
According to Mrs. Marilyn Tigas, PSWDO head, her office is targeting to distribute the same amount of financial assistance to at least 150 families more, a few days from now, pending validation, verification of some necessary pertinent documents. She said they will not stop in the validation/ verification and processing of necessary documents until such time that all rightful beneficiaries are given assistance.
Tigas added that normally, financial assistance of this amount are released in the form of checks, but in his earnest desire to ease the burden of the fire victims, Governor Abet Garcia, insisted that said financial assistance be given in cash instead of check, to save the recipients from the hassle of going to the bank to encash the check, thereby enabling them to quickly use the cash for their basic immediate necessities.
Mr. Noel Gloria, Municipal Administrator of Orion, added a good news when he announced that the budget amounting to Php 700 million for the permanent relocation site located in Daang Pari in Orion and near Paseo Padre Residences was already approved by the National Housing Authority and President Rodrigo Duterte. The relocation site where a tenement-style housing will be constructed will be dubbed as “1Bataan Disiplina Village”.
