CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – As part of the Local AIDS Council’s (LAC) objective to have an HIV-free generation, a LAC meeting was held yesterday, November 14, at the Provincial Health Office (PHO) Conference Room.
Dr. Rosanna Buccahan (Provincial Health Officer) and Ms. Jana Magpoc, RN (Provincial HIV Nurse Coordinator) led the meeting, discussing important issues like the localization of HIV response, the basics of HIV, AIDS, and STIs, Executive Order for the Bataan Provincial Local AIDS Council, Republic Act 8504 (AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998/AIDS Law), and the preparation for the upcoming World AIDS Day Celebration.
Republic Act No. 8504 (AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998/AIDS Law) is an act promulgating policies and prescribing measures for the prevention and control of HIV infection and AIDS in the Philippines. One very important article under this is the Article VII: Discriminatory Acts and Policies which discusses that Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) and AIDS cannot be denied access to employment and livelihood, admission in schools, travel and habitation elective or appointive office, credit and insurance, health care, and decent burial services.
It was also emphasized that HIV is not a death sentence, and PLHIV should have hope for a better and longer life. In fact, the government supports PLHIV for their treatment and supports the public to prevent HIV. There are social hygiene clinics, HIV testing centers & HIV treatment hubs in Bataan: Abucay RHU, Balanga RHU I, II, III, Dinalupihan RHU, Limay RHU, LAMAO BHS, Mariveles RHU I, II, III, Orion RHU, Mariveles Mental Hospital, Provincial Health Office, and Bataan General Hospital.
