CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – “Poor health education and knowledge in malaria cases are two of the reasons for having this kind of disease in our community,” said Dr. Raffy Deray of National Malaria Program, Malaria Control & Elimination Program, Department of Health – Central Office during the Malaria Awareness Month celebration spearheaded by the Provincial Health Office held at La Vista Inland Resort, this city, last November 29.
Dr. Raffy Deray added that we can achieve a Malaria Free community if we are all capable to diagnose it specifically in the municipal health unit and barangay health unit.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rosanna Buccahan proudly said that Bataan has been officially declared as Malaria Free as early as September 2017 including three provinces in the Region III. She also acknowledged the efforts of different municipal health units in promoting Malaria Awareness in the province.
In celebration of the Malaria Awareness Month, Department of Health (DOH) represented by Dr. Raffy Deray turned over the Seal of Bataan with a check incentive for having been declared as Malaria Free (as early as 2017). Also present in the event was Department of Health (DOH) Central Luzon, Center for Health Development Assistant Regional Director Dr. Ruben Siapnon.
Dr. Raffy Deray reminded everyone that even if Bataan is already declared as Malaria Free we should still promote health awareness and be vigilant in our surroundings.
