BALANGA CITY, Baaan – The Provincial Veterinary Office has sought the assistance of the Bataan Mayors’ League for the speedy implementation of a Sangguniang Panlalwigan (SP) Ordinance providing for a comprehensive animal regulation on rabies control and eradication in Bataan.
Dr. Alberto S. Venturina, provincial veterinarian, has informed Dinalupihan town Mayor Maria Angela S. Garcia and concurrently the president of the Bataan Mayors’ League, for the strict enforcement of provincial ordinance number 4 series of 2015 with the reported growing number of rabies incidents which the Provincial Health Office (PHO) registered three (3) fatalities in Dinalupihan, Hermosa and Abucay towns.
About 12 cases of negri bodies positive dogs based on the stringent examination results of the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL) in San Fernando City, Pampanga were discovered in Bataan stray dogs since January this year. Compared to previous years, from 2011 to 2014, no reported rabies incident was ever listed in Bataan.
Citing section 2 of the provincial ordinance which shall be mandatory, Venturina said all dog/cat owners should keep their dogs and cats confined within their premises by proper housing or leashing the same to avoid incidence of rabid dog/cat bites on human and to prevent contamination from other pets.
Likewise, Venturina said an Anti-rabies Task Force shall be formed in every village that will be composed of barangay councilmen, tanods, health workers and members of the police force which shall be responsible in executing control measures.
He explained that the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) shall regulate the ownership of animals in homes or as part of business and to evaluate and adopt quarantine regulation to prevent introduction and spread of disease within the locality.
