CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) held the 1st regional town hall meeting attended by representatives from the national and local government offices and members of the national and local media at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center, City of San Fernando Pampanga, last July 2.
Anchored on the theme: “Dagyaw: Open Government and Participatory Governance Townhall Meeting, Bringing Government Closer to the Citizens”, said town hall meeting aims to provide a platform for citizens to clarify issues of the day and raise local concerns through direct dialogue with senior government officials.
Topics discussed were focused on issues such as the Universal Health Care Act, Mental Health law, Rice Trade Liberalization Act, and Build Build Build.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Departments of Agriculture (DA); Health (DOH); Public Works and Highways (DPWH); and Budget and Management (DBM).
DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said that the importance of the town hall meeting is to help the local government units in providing assistance to the leaders of their respective areas.
Malaya also mentioned that under the Newly Elected Officials (NEO) program, DILG will provide training among newly elected local government officials on how to become effective leaders. The training program is effective from the day they were elected up to the end of their term. “If you want to have a seal of good and local governance (SGLG) you have to undergo this training in addition to the other requirements,” he added.
To date, DILG is hopeful to conduct series of governance town hall meetings in other provinces in Central Luzon.
