BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Expounding the Consumer Welfare Month 2018 theme “Making Digital Market Places Fairer,” Deputy Director Rosario L. Rafael of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) San Fernando Branch imparted practical tips on online shopping, e-commerce, using ATM/debit/credit cards, and how to handle consumer complaints.
Rafael engaged 78 participating consumer welfare organizations, establishment executives, teachers and students in a discussion on how to save on bank fees and charges during the provincial culminating activity of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Bataan Provincial Office held at Crown Royale Hotel, Balanga City on October 24, 2018.
Meanwhile, BSP Bank Officer II Ma. Lourdes Laconsay reminded the public to be more vigilant against counterfeit peso bills by familiarizing themselves with the security features of Philippine banknotes such as the watermark on the blank area of the bill and security threads that appear stitch-like and metallic.
In the culmination of the month-long celebration, DTI Bataan awarded the top 10 winners of the Provincial On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest which was conducted on October 11. Margie Rose Sagadraca from Mother Margherita de Brincat Catholic School in Dinalupihan town topped the contest joined by 33 high school students from different schools in the province.
Also, DTI Bataan conferred the Bagwis Seal of Excellence to the most outstanding business establishments for their compliance to fair trade laws and on upholding consumer rights and protection.
Nine establishments were given the Gold Bagwis: Nissan, National Bookstore, Elizabeth Bodega Sales, Ocampo’s Megastore, Inc.- Balanga, and Mike-Len Supermart & Bakeshop.
The Silver Bagwis was conferred to Elizabeth Bakery & Grocery, while the Bronze Bagwis were awarded to Elizabeth Supermarket-Orion, Ocampo’s Megastore, Inc.- Dinalupihan, and Baluyot Hardware Store.
The successful provincial culminating activity was organized by DTI Bataan headed by Provincial Director Nelin O. Cabahug, together with Consumer Protection Division chief Ma. Concepcion B. Sanico, in coordination with Mr. Rolando A. Dizon, president of Federation of the Consumer Organizations in Bataan.
