BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bataan, in line with its continuing SME Roving Academy (SMERA), conducted a capability building program among 38 owners/managers of different businesses in the province.
The one-day seminar on “Supervisory Effectiveness for Improved Quality and Productivity” had the very impressive Dr. Edgardo Bolinao of the Phil. Trade Training Center as resource speaker.
DTI Bataan OIC Provincial Director Nelin Cabahug, in her opening message said that SMERA in Bataan is continuously holding learning series in the different aspects of business development for the business sector and entrepreneurs to further improve their supervisory skills especially in their relationships with their staff/workers, with the end goal of becoming competitive in the DTI’s strategy of managing inclusive growth in the province.
The main focus of the seminar, according to Dr. Bolinao, a professor of Dela Salle University for 19 years in Business Administration, is for all owners/managers to lead their company towards good relationship which will boil down to productivity and eventually the progress of their business.
Bolinao explained that the success of each company depends largely on the effectiveness of the supervisor directing the actions of the people in their respective sections. A good leader according to him, is one who assists and helps his subordinates and doesn’t blame nor focus on their mistakes.
In his lecture, Dr. Bolinao emphasized that a supervisor needs to have not only skills in communication and motivation in developing his workers but should also know how to interpret the processes involved in planning, organizing, leading (decision making), staffing, directing and controlling (performance evaluation) on the operations of the business.
In closing, he said that one needs to plan and do, learn from their experiences, not afraid to take risks or mistakes, make decisions with participation and as a leader, knows that he has responsibilities to others.
