CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The Blood Bank of Bataan General Hospital (BGH, in coordination with the Bataan Multi-Sectoral Governance Coalition (MSGC) successfully conducted its bloodletting activity last March 18, 2016.
Aimed at collecting blood that will be utilized in saving the lives of patients especially the in-patients of BGH who are in need of blood, this activity will be done twice a year. Bataan MSGC serves as an oversight committee on the performance of the provincial government wherein Dr. Glory V. Baltazar, Chief of BGH, is one of its members particularly for the health sector.
Most of the blood donors were students from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the municipalities of Mariveles and Orion as well as from the Bataan Peninsula State University (Main Campus). This is in line with the program of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) of the Department of Health that is targeting the youth as volunteers in its blood donation program.
This activity is also in accordance to RA No. 7719 otherwise known as National Blood Services Act of 1994 that aims to create public consciousness on the importance of blood donation in saving the lives of millions of Filipinos.
In December 2015, the Bataan General Hospital has successfully acquired the license to operate its Blood Bank from the DOH Central Office. They then purchased a blood refrigerator that can store bags of blood which are ready for use anytime especially among BGH patients. Said Blood Bank serves an average of 15-20 patients on a daily basis.
