BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The City of Balanga has joined the long list of strategic areas in the country chosen to have their own Community Fish Landing Centers through the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Region 3.
Mayor Francis Garcia toured the new solar-powered building equipped with activity center, cold storage facilities, and stainless stalls to function as the central marketing venue for fishery products.
The mayor said the facilities will help ensure reduction of post-harvest losses, better quality control and stringent price monitoring.
The P2.8 million facility located right in the heart of Sitio Draga, Barangay Puerto Rivas Ibaba in Balanga City was inaugurated on last February 15. The project is under BFAR’s umbrella program called “Targeted Actions to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation (TARGET).
Reports from Mayor Garcia’s office showed that almost P4 million worth of farm machinery, fishing paraphernalia and 18 fishing boats with complete accessories were turned over to selected families, associations, and the barangays.
The turn-over rites were witnessed by the city mayor and Bataan Second District Congressman Jose Enrique S. Garcia III and BFAR Regional Director Lilian Garcia.
