CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Parents and legal guardians must give consent on their children getting free dengue vaccination and deworming medication these coming months, the Department of Health and the Provincial Health Office said.
During the Balitang Bataan radio program aired over Power Radio this morning, Dra. Ellen Ibasco of DOH and Dra. Rosanna Buccahan of PHO urged parents to allow their Grade 4 children in public schools to get dengue vaccine this summer vacation. Public school pupils will also be given deworming medication this July.
In a related development, the town of Mariveles accounted for the highest number of students at 9,548, who underwent the first round of school-based deworming last January. Dinalupihan West followed with 5,491 and Orion with 4,828. This is pursuant to the national school-based deworming program.
The Provincial Health Office is intensifying the implementation of deworming program in schools through constant partnership with municipal health offices. The first round of school-based deworming in January resulted to a total of 54.52 percent of enrolled students dewormed. The second round of deworming will be held in July.
