MORONG, Bataan – The Environmental Management Bureau vowed on Friday it will continue checking resorts, restaurants and bodies of water for any violation of environmental laws.
Lormelyn Claudio, DENR-EMB regional director for Central Luzon announced this as she conducts siphoning of the plush Sea and River Resort located just at the back of Morong Municipal Hall.
After the siphoning of the resort’s septage tank by a private sewerage firm, a certification notice was attached to the gate of Sea and River Resort implying that the resort has been proven to be free of effluent waste.
The siphoning event was witnessed by Morong Mayor Cynthia Estanislao, environment officers, and officers of resorts owners association of Morong.
Estanislao informed Claudio that Morong has around 126 beach resort of which four resort owners had complied with environmental requirements. Lately, however, Estanislao said, some beach resort owners are trying to comply with EMB requirement to the point where some had volunteered to self-demolish their resort structures.
Ms. Claudio disclosed that siphoning activities will continue all the way to Bagac, Limay, and Mariveles towns. “In fact, we are about to issue closure order on two restaurants in Mariveles over water issue,” she said.
The EMB will likewise monitor sea water near the power plants including Bataan Petron Refinery, in Limay and the GN Power, a Coal-fired power plant, and other existing industrial companies near the coastal waters facing Manila Bay.
