BALANGA CITY, Bataan – City Mayor Francis Garcia thanked his predecessors, Governor Abet Garcia, Congressman Joet Garcia and his father, the late Gov./Cong. Tet Garcia for paving the way for the progress of Balanga City, now a “Hall of Fame Awardee for Outstanding Government Unit for component city category.
In his State of the City Address (SOCA), Mayor Francis made mention that the key to Bataan’s unification is his father, Cong. Tet Garcia who started the Iskolar ng Bataan in 2004, while Balanga Cityhood, now on its 17thyear anniversary was established during the term of then Mayor Abet Garcia, now Governor of Bataan and the “University Town Vision,” giving quality education and higher importance on the family was thru the effort of then Mayor Joet Garcia, now Congressman of the 2nd district of Bataan, who up to now includes the importance of family in his barangay visits.
City Mayor Garcia emphasized in his address that education is the top priority of his administration, in fact the city bagged the National Literacy Hall of Fame Award. He also stressed that it is possible to achieve “world class education” given the right technology, good leadership and governance and good DepEd officials.
As a hall of famer in the National Literacy program, City Mayor Garcia underscored that the establishment of learning hubs played a major role. They now have 9 barangay learning hubs and 4 school learning hubs with an average of 204 users a day and cumulative users of 27,000 as of December 2017.
Garcia added that the city government relies so much on the importance of learning hubs, that two more hubs (Brgy. Camacho and Brgy. Bagong Silang) have been completed with a sponsor ready to donate 30 brand new computers.
Mayor Francis added that 200 computers are now being put up at the Bataan National High School and 200 more new computers are coming, to realize his objective that all students will at least have an hour per day of computer time.
City Mayor Francis Garcia reiterated that the learning hubs, both at school and barangay levels, will help elevate the quality of education in Balanga City and that by year 2020, Balanga City will be a University town, an emerging hub of technology-related businesses.
