BATAAN CAPITOL – A $1 Billion 600-megawatt thermal power plant is going to be put up in Bataan province in the next few months following the signing Thursday of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Bataan provincial government and the Hanjo Group Manufacturing Inc.
When completed, the said plant will create 20,000 construction workers and 500 to 600 regular workers which is a boon to local economy.
Chris Takayama, chief finance officer of Hanjo Group, said through an interpreter that the company decided to put up the plan in the province because of the good leadership of Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia and the beauty of the place.
Takayama is also aware of the nation’s energy needs within five years which had been described by energy experts as “critical.” He said that Bataan has a good track record in terms of dealing with foreign investors.
It was not immediately known where the plant’s location will be. But Gov. Garcia said studies are under way to pinpoint a good location for the thermal plant. He added that the new power plant will not have any conflict with the existing power plants in the province.
