MARIVELES, Bataan – This coastal industrial town recorded as the country’s third richest municipality in 2017 aims to earn more what with more aggressive collection efforts of the municipal treasurer’s office.
Municipal Treasurer Erwin L. Villapando said the municipal government last year collected a total of P150 million in taxes, 14 percent higher than the 2017 collection of P132 million.
He said this year’s collection is estimated at P161 million considering the good business climate in the industrial town, host to bustling Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB).
“Our collectibles on contractors alone will amount to P80 million and it’s already in the bag,” Villapando said.
Other sources of bulk of taxes include giant power generating company like the GN Power, San Miguel Corp. and contractors and builders, the manufacturing sector, and commercial establishments.
Municipal Councilor Angel Sunga, chair of Sangguniang Bayan committee on budget and appropriations, and health, said the local council had just approved this year’s P649 million budget.
He said collectibles from other sources of tax may yet reach more than P18 million including those from energy generating utilities.
