MARIVELES, Bataan – Municipal officials of this industrial town is optimistic of the looming renovation of the historic town, which was one of the two starting points of infamous Death March in the province seventy –seven years ago to formulate a highly achievable long range development plan to make the place a more peaceful and progressive business community for ecological-tourism industry.
Mayor Ace Jello “AJ” Concepcion, has expressed his all-out support to create an strategy which would effectively promote the rich historical sites and to develop well-meaning investment packages on travel and tourism that would finally attract local and foreign visitors .
Concepcion, a lawyer, has pointed out the historical importance and several spectrum of heroic sites of Mariveles during the 2nd World War. Its abundant picturesque and unexplored world class attractive natural resources are sufficient itinerary to boost local tourism industry.
Mariveles town is geographically located at the gateway to the country’s political, social and economic center in the East and the West Philippine Sea in the South, both are with commercial and productive advantages as international shipping routes and have contributed to export market and development of other revenue generating industries.
He revealed aside from the proposed improvement of coastal areas of the municipality, the exploration of the vegetative forest of famous Mount Mariveles will be potentials as agricultural food basket and excellent tourism sites for nature lovers and picnickers from other nearby provinces in Central Luzon.
With the improvement of facilities, he has encouraged the local tourism council of creating a modern commuter sea transport system plying from Mariveles town proper to the historic Corregidor Island for visitors, historians, educators, students and other segments to truly appreciate the participation of the last bastion of democracy.
He added that with this development, small and medium entrepreneurs may participate in the town’s socio-economic impact for establishing trade centers, catering and food business, souvenir shops and locally manufactured handicrafts and pasalubong items.
