National artist urges residents to instill the heroic contributions of Balagtas

ORION ,Bataan – National Artist Virgilio Almario yesterday urged the students, educators and local government officials to always imbue in their hearts and never forget the heroic contributions of the illustrious poet Francisco Balagtas.
Speaking before some 1,000 participants and guests at the wreath laying rites at Hardin ni Balagtas at the coastal village of Pagasa Wawa, this town,headed by Bataan Vice Governor Cris Garcia and Orion town Mayor Antono Raymundo ,Jr., national artist Almario, chairman of Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) strongly emphasized the advancing of Philippine literature to the young generation by reading the works of great poet Francisco Balagtas.
In his short message, Almario noted the good performance and partnership in Bataan that led to the construction of the first educational center for ethnic language in the country in the upland village of Bangkal, Abucay town last year.
The Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino chairman said the Bahay Wika that teaches Ayta Magbukun language to children is a product of wide connection between KWF and the provincial government.
Children belonging to the Ayta Magbukun tribe are taught to use their native language as Almario bared that modernization contributes to the decline in use of local language.
Multi-awarded singer and composer Rey Valera and playwrite Rodolfo Vera are this year’s Dangal ni Balagtas recipients. KWF Almario, Vice Governor Cris Garcia and Mayor Raymundo conferred the awards n the opening ceremony of National Literature Monday yesterday at Orion Elementary School as part of Araw ni Balagtas activities.
