BALANGA CITY,Bataan – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has bankrolled the construction of two vital irrigation projects worth P30 million last year to boost crop productivity in farming villages of Cataning and Tuyo, this City.
Ms. Nerissa B. Mateo, city agriculturist and concurrent environment and natural resources officer , has revealed the two essential irrigation systems located in greater Bani in Cataning with project cost of P 25 milllion and the P 5 million in Barangay Tuyo would hasten the agricultural yield and deliver sufficient irrigation waters to large idle lands which are conducive to agribusiness undertakings.
The two irrigation projects are intended to benefit more than 200 farmers and residents who are expected to cultivate about 450 hectares of community farmlands that supply the food requirements of the fast growing component city in Central Luzon.
Mayor Anthony Francis S. Garcia has coordinated with the NIA top officials for the setting –up of crucial countryside agricultural development scheme which would ensure food security and income generating programs for the farmers.
According to Ms. Mateo , Mayor Garcia, city council members and agricultural development council have formulated a sustainable and productive agricultural investment area which would safeguard food security and livelihood with the high urbanization phase of the province’s component city.
She reiterated with the Department of Agriculture concept of mechanization stage in improving quality farm inputs which include the acquisition of farm machinery and equipment and the expansion of NIA irrigation programs in the rural areas, the local officials are confident of the outcome of more economic advantages for the farmers .
