ORANI, Bataan – The Orani Water District (OWD) will be conducting its fifth (5th) watershed reforestation in the upland village of Tala, this town.
OWD General Manager Benni Andres said they will be planting another 10,000 seedlings or even more to the watershed area on August 13 this year. OWD has already planted 39,000 tree seedlings in the Tala watershed area for the last 4 years. The water district is nurturing 28 hectares watershed area, which is part of Bataan National Park.
Andres earlier said they have very high batting average on the seedlings they planted. He added they prefer to plant tibig trees, which hold more water compared to other tree species. They even hired two patrol personnel to guard and monitor the seedlings they planted.
In celebrating its anniversary every February for the past 5 years, OWD has been sponsoring fun run for a cause to raise fund for the water district’s reforestation program. OWD has raised P116,960.00 funds last February to be used for the project.
Andres explained that their reforestation effort at the Tala watershed area aims to improve the water source under it. “We have to improve our source of water by reforesting watershed areas”, he stressed.
The reforestation program of OWD has been attracting the support of various sectors for the past years.
