CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – The Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB), through the Provincial Population Office, is currently conducting today an orientation on Republic Act 9710 also known as the “Magna Carta of Women” and on R.A 9262, “The Anti-Violence Against Women and Children,” at the Crown Royale Hotel, this City.
“Actually, isa ito sa compliance ng probinsya para sa Gender and Development (GAD) Program at para din ma-inform yung mga empleyado ng kapitolyo about their rights,” said Mr. Danilo C. Perez, Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Population Office, when asked regarding the rationale of the program.
Dr. Corazon Aguilar-David, Women and Children’s Desk Protection Officer of the Philippine National Police, served as the guest speaker in the whole-day event.
“The state recognizes the role of women in building the nation,” Dr. David mentioned as she stated the law on Magna Carta of Women, and the reason why we have GAD is to determine our rights,” she added.
According to her, there are five objectives why the Magna Carta Law was formed, and these are the following: (1) to eliminate discrimination against women, (2) to condemn all forms of discrimination, (3) to establish mechanism to inform women of their rights, (4) to provide skills training for women, and (5) the categorization of women.
The speaker cited scenarios/situations that address gender inequality. She also discussed the new set of rules introduced under R.A 9710.
Dr. David likewise introduced the five forms of violence against women, and these are: verbal, physical, psychological, economic and sexual. She also dealt with the three forms of protection order which are: the Barangay Protection Order (BPO) valid for 15 days, the Temporary Protection Order (TPO) valid for 30 days, and the Permanent Protection Order (PPO) valid permanently unless revoked.
Forty-five GAD Focal Persons from the different departments of the Provincial Government of Bataan attended the said orientation.
