BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Purposed to increase the level of awareness of the community regarding Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), a celebration of World AIDS Day internationally is done every December 1.
With the Provincial Health office (PHO) and the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), the celebration was held today, December 5, 2017 at Sari-Gamit Covered Court, BPSU Main Campus.
This year’s theme “right to health” focuses on the inalienable right of every individual (regardless of HIV status) to a healthy and safe living, highlighting opportunities to leverage rights-based practices and behaviors to achieve a more rapid and sustainable progress towards universal health coverage and sustainable development goals.
The program today includes a foot parade, HIV awareness poster and slogan contest, and discussions about HIV epidemiology (national, regional, provincial data), basics of HIV, AIDS, and STIs, Republic Act 8504 (AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998/AIDS Law), community based organization, and stigma reduction.
Mr. Michael Angelo Baluyot, RN (Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Nurse), Ms. Joanamary Magpoc, RN (Provincial HIV Nurse Coordinator), and Mr. Wayne Baniqued (Founder, Juan Positive Movement) led the event. It was attended by the faculty and students of BPSU and the local media.
