BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Focused on policy dissemination regarding HIV in the workplace, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) advocates nationwide convened at La Vista Inland Resort, this city on Friday, May 18 for the 2018 Philippine International AIDS Candlelight Memorial (PIACM) Scientific Meeting.
Among the topics discussed were Overview of the HIV Epidemic by the Department of Health (DOH), Workplace Policy and Education Program on HIV and AIDS by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control in Workplace Program by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the National Measles Supplemental Immunization Activity.
Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) President, Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma. R. Santos shared his encounter with an HIV patient when he said he used to have misconceptions regarding HIV. Said patient is still working and is successful in his chosen career.
Pilipinas Shell Country Health Manager Dr. Rosalie V. Rivera likewise shared her experience with a worker who was diagnosed with HIV way back in 2007. Said person is now a manager of their company which goes to show that they have maintained credibility in taking care and protecting their employees.
