CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – Even though Bataan is declared safe from avian influenza (bird flu), it doesn’t mean that the people, the government, and other sectors concerned will just sit around and munch unlimited chicken meat. That is why the Provincial Government of Bataan through the Provincial Veterinarian Office (PVO) conducted a provincial avian influenza inter-agency task force meeting yesterday, August 16, 2017, at the Bataan Library and Youth Development Center.

Present in the event were Danval Mc Lyn Molina, DVM (Veterinarian I, PVO), Hon. Jose Villapando Sr. (Vice Chairman, SP Committee on Agriculture), Hon. Benjamin Serrano Jr. (Chairman, SP Committee on Agriculture), Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia, and Albert Venturina, DVM (Provincial Veterinarian) who gave their short messages regarding the outbreak. Agatha Pauline Cleto, DVM, Veterinarian II of the PVO, was also present and discussed the avian influenza protection program.

Included in the protection program is the Provincial Ordinance No. 3, an ordinance prescribing the control and eradication of avian influenza or bird flu in the province of Bataan. In its Section IV, it states that the creation of the Local Avian Influenza Task Force includes the Governor, Mayor, Provincial Veterinarian, City/Municipal Agriculturist, Livestock/Meat Inspector, Prov’l/City/Mun. Health Officer, Prov’l/City/Mun. PNP Commander, President – Assoc. of Brgy. Captains, NGO representative, Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council, Provincial Information Office, PENRO/ENRO, DILG, DepEd, National Irrigation Administration, Poultry Raisers Association, Duck Raisers Association, and Game Fowl Association Representative.

With the members of the task force present in the meeting, their next steps towards preventing the bird flu in entering the province is much clearer: that they should perform different preventive measures like biosecurity, information dissemination, check points of vehicles going in and out of Bataan, and the cooperation of the different sectors involved in the matter.
