HERMOSA, Bataan – Bataan First District Representative Geraldine B. Roman on Friday visited the site of the future Shelter for Abused Women and Children which will be located inside the compound of the Hermosa Sanitary Landfill Facility in Barangay Mambog, of this municipality.
Former Bataan Rep. Herminia B. Roman also joined her daughter Geraldine, together with her staff led by Dr. Boyet Castañeda.
Econest Waste Management Corporation President and CEO, Atty. Beulah Coeli Fiel led the briefing about the company’s advocacies for the protection and welfare of women.
Recently, during Econest’s first year anniversary, the inaugural pageant of Miss Econest 2018 was held. Part of the pageant’s proceeds was donated for the said Shelter.
Congresswoman Roman has allotted an initial P1.5 million for the Shelter project.
According to a Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) report, women in their 30s who are living in the rural areas have experienced physical, sexual or emotional abuse from their husbands.
Based on the preliminary results from the 2017 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), around 11,558 married women aged 15 to 49 years old were abused.
The PSA report added, in terms of the number of women, Calabarzon, Metro Manila and Central Luzon recorded the highest incidences of physical, emotional or sexual abuse at 1,964, 1,727 and 1,175 respectively. Around 4,257 of them were between 30 and 39 years old, and 6,294 of them are living in rural areas nationwide.
