BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Reelected Senator Cynthia A. Villar urged the new graduates of the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) to adhere to productive agri-business to achieve better quality of life.
The guest speaker of the BPSU 2019 Annual Commencement Exercises held at the Bataan Sports Center last Friday, Senator Villar who topped the senatorial race in the recent midyear local elections, discussed lengthily to graduates the huge opportunities awaiting them in the agri-business industry with the country’s growing population and food security.
The chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food vowed to promote agribusiness believing these would help alleviate poverty and improve their livelihood for their future.
Exhorting the parents who served as role model of family in providing good education to their children, the lady Senator stressed that they should encourage their children to unlock the limitless opportunities in agri-business
A simple solution to overcome poverty and realizing your dreams is to strive hard to become entrepreneurs which we started and experienced with former Senate President Manny Villar as delivery truck driver of our hollow block business, Sen. Villar said.
Villae expressed optimism for farm tourism and agriculture-related businesses in the country especially Republic Act 10816 or the Farm Tourism Development Law mandating government participation in promoting and developing the sector has already been signed into law three years ago.
Villar, an author to the law, said the law will benefit farmers, farm owners, farming enthusiasts and others who are involved in agriculture, especially in agricultural communities in rural areas.
“Since half of our country’s population live in rural areas and two-thirds are involved directly or indirectly in agriculture, so if we can reduce poverty in these areas, we can help reduce poverty in the entire country,” she said.
