BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) – Bataan in cooperation with the Federation of Senior Citizens’ Association of the Philippines (FSCAP) and the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) organized the Provincial Celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week with the theme: “Kilalanin at Parangalan, Tagasulong ng Karapatan ng Nakatatanda Tungo sa Lipunang Mapagkalinga.” The celebration kicked off with a foot parade/motorcade from Doña Francisca Subdivision all the way to the venue of the celebration at Louis Resort and Restaurant on October 8, Monday in this City. Gaudencio “Guding” Ferrer, PSWDO Head Ms. Marilyn Tigas and selected senior citizens from all over the province.
In her speech, Vice Gov. Cris said that in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, they will support the resolution to give financial aid to our Senior Citizens and other resolutions for the welfare of our “Seniors”. BM Villapando, Chairman of SP Committee on Senior Citizens added that they will pass more resolutions that will help our Senior Citizens to ease their everyday life.
Former BM Ferrer, representative of Governor Abet Garcia to the event, discussed the various programs of the Governor for sustainable development like jobs, better infrastructures, and better health facilities that will benefit everybody.
Awards were given to the “Best Senior Citizen” in every municipality and city for their willingness to help their fellow “seniors” and other people. Ms. Susan Hernandez of DSWD Regional Office 3, discussed the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the “Social Pension Program” of the Department.
Lastly, in the afternoon session, various activities and games were held like the Chorale Competition wherein the seniors from Bagac won (3rd Place), Mariveles (2nd Place), and Abucay (1st Place). The seniors also won special gifts in the Guess the Picture, Bring Me games and Raffle. The Senior Citizens enjoyed playing with each other and went home with the thought that “they will cherish this experience forever.”
