BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The SM Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan has opened another rural farmers training project in the agricultural village of Tuyo, this City, to accelerate crop production and improve the quality of farm inputs .
Ms. Christy Angeles, senior vice president for outreach of SM Foundation , said the project of uplifting the farmers technical know how and enriching further the technological comprehension on vegetable yields in the market.
The latest agricultural training project in Balanga City is the second of its kind established in Bataan after the Northern town of Dinalupihan last year .
Ms. Angeles explained that Harbest Agribusiness Corporation thru its Harbest Agritech Department has joined hands with SM Foundation ‘s Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan since 2007 in training more than 16,000 small farmers in improving vegetable technology with natural farming method, composting of farm wastes, environmental health crusade, pesticide and fungicide using local ingredients of tuba vinegar and lambanog.
According to Ms. Angeles, about 50 farmers would undergo twelve weeks of model farming system which would become a prototypical pattern among farmers to achieve alternative sources of revenues in rural communities.
The farmers would be trained to produce high-quality and saleable agricultural crops to SM supermarkets which have been foreseen as the principal markets.
For almost 12 years, the SM Foundation projects had successfully trained 198 batches countrywide and supplied agricultural products which have passed the stringent requirement standards imposed by the marketing groups of SM nationwide outlets.
