BALANGA CITY, Bataan – San Miguel Corporation, the country’s largest conglomerate, has recently paid P1.3 billion in taxes to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Office (RDO 20).

This was revealed in a radio interview with Gemo Espinosa, administrative department chief of the BIR-RDO 20 based in this component city. Laura Salita is the new Bataan RDO Chief.

“Sa ngayon po buwan ng Marso, our office has collected almost 2 billion pesos worth of taxes kung saan 1.3 billion po doon ay nagmula sa tax na ibinayad ng San Miguel Corporation,” Espinosa said over the radio program “Morning Connections” on Poweradio 104.5FM.

Bataan RDO 20 has a tax collection target of 3.1 billion pesos for the year 2017.

Espinosa also reminded the taxpayers about their deadline in paying the annual income tax return which falls on April 15, which happens to be Black Saturday. “Kaya malamang hanggang April 12 lang po ang opisina namin,” he added.

He also urged the taxpaying public to do their share in nation building by paying taxes promptly and correctly. The BIR also has its online paying system in their e-lounge but Espinosa reminded that it is better to pay before the deadline to avoid clogging in their system.

Espinosa also warned the taxpaying public about the 25% surcharge as penalty and 20% interest per annum if they fail to pay their income tax on time plus compromise penalties depending on the amount of tax to be paid.

Recently, a kick-off tax campaign was also launched to inform the public about their duties in tax payment and about their new office address which is now at the four-story BIR building along the Capitol Drive in front of a Chowking branch in this city.
