BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Ten Filipino war veterans were honored for their loyalty, sacrifice, and valor during the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony on Monday at Emillian hall, Balanga.
The US Congressional Gold Medal Award is the highest civilian honor to be given by the United States of America to an individual with great contributions during the World War II.
The veterans who were awarded at the said event are the following: Ms. Francisca Penaflor dela Fuente, Mr. Democrito Aguinza Domingo, Mr. Lewe Aguinza Domingo, Mr. Rogel Abellera Viray, Mr. Leopoldo Tamondong Gunsay, Mr. Florentino Tolentino Platero, Mr. Macario Oenio Roque, Mr. Gabriel Layug, Mr. Pedro Quezon, and Mr. Quirico “Eric” Evangelista.
During the ceremony, Usec. Reynaldo Mapagu mentioned that this is the 7th in the series of ceremonies held in the Philippines and aiming that these ceremonies to be replicated in various places in the country to ensure that the awards reach its rightful recipients in the near future.
