CITY of BALANGA, Bataan – “Know where the people are and build on what they have,” Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Director of Small Ruminant Center Neal Del Rosario advised the farmers and students who attended the technology pitching of different experts regarding Goat Farming held at the Bataan People’s Center, yesterday November 21 during the Goat Fiesta 2018..
CLSU Vice President for Business Affairs Dr. Edgar Orden said that the main problem of goat farming is its productivity. This is the reason why they developed an affordable and sustainable feed which they called Sure Feed for goat (SFEED). They claim that this is one of the best solutions in order for the farmers to have goat farming as one of their income sources.
Artificial insemination for goats was also discussed by Isabela State University Director for Small Ruminants Research Center Dr. Jonathan Nayga. It aims to promote the method of breeding in which technology is used to plant the semen to the female goat. He also mentioned that with artificial insemination, you can just have your goat reproduce in the backyard farm.
Aside from the technology pitching regarding goat farming, Isabela State University also presented the Farmer Livestock School on Goat Enterprise Management (FLS-GEM) developed by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources, Research and Development (PCAARD) where farmers were taught on how they can have an income out of the few goats they have right now. Also discussed was the proper way of raising native and upgraded types of goat.
Isabela State University welcomes all interested farmers and students to avail of the FLS-GEM program.
